At Zype, we love our customers, brisket and SXSW.
So it was a no brainer to have La Barbecue, respected by many aficionados as the #1 BBQ in Austin, cater our SXSW Anniversary Party. Our event was at neighboring Stay Gold, where we had Bobby Bare Jr. and The Supersuckers with special guest Willie Nelson's harmonica player Mickey Raphael entertaining our customers, partners and friends.
I've been obsessed with BBQ ever since first coming to Austin many moons ago, and have started smoking brisket at my home in New Jersey - far away from the land of post oak wood and secret rubs. Being a brisket nerd means that I had to take the opportunity to get a quick behind the scenes tour of La Barbecue, where the pitmaster and GM couldn't have been friendlier.
At Zype, we've been really focused on using our own products, so in addition to live streaming the bands and the party, we wanted to step into the shoes of creators out there using consumer tech like iPhones and iMovies, and without much of a script, go out and shoot something. For this quick tour we used an iPhone 6s+ to capture and iMovie to edit on device. The video was uploaded to the Zype platform and posted to the blog with a simple embed code.
PS - The brisket lived up to all expectations. We had 50 lbs of it go pretty quickly - from what I remember after coming out of my brisket coma, it was moist, with a tangy bark and deep smokey flavor that wasn't overpowering. Couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the first year since winning SXSW Accelerator and celebrating our customer's success with Zype. Can't wait to do it again next year.
